What initially attracted you to recruitment and why did you choose to work at SO?

When I finished university, I wasn’t specifically looking at roles in recruitment, I was interviewing at a number of companies for a variety of roles. What struck me about Spencer Ogden when I interviewed here was the career progression and earning potential opportunities for people after only being at the business for a short-time. I was looking for an environment in which I would see results, reward and recognition for my work and SO has been exactly that.

When did you start working at SO?

I joined Spencer Ogden in November 2018 as a graduate.

How did you achieve the recent promotion to Senior Consultant? What is your advice to consultants that are looking to take the next step in their career?

Running a recruitment desk is essentially like running your own business, you have to be strategic, know your market, customer and product. The SO Academy gave me the tools and direction to create a strategy and my manager gave me the autonomy to implement it. All success has come from specialising heavily into a very niche market, knowing it inside-out and ultimately dominating it.

How has your manager helped you achieve this promotion?

My manager has shown me what strong processes look like and how to create an effective recruitment operating model. Once I had learnt that, it helped guide me towards implementing the best version of the model/processes for my particular market.

What training has SO offered you to support your personal growth to date?

As I was completely new to recruitment the SO Academy helped me to get up-to speed with what recruitment, and more importantly, how to succeed in it. Next I'll be on the ‘Maximising Mentoring’ programme to further develop my skills.

Recruitment has its challenges - how do you stay motivated?

Mostly by seeing people around me succeeding and getting through the same challenges as I'm facing, it's easy to be optimistic when the people around you have been through similar situations and are now flourishing.

What advice would you give a graduate considering a career in recruitment?

If reaching your potential, achieving your highest earning targets and being recognised for all of your good work appeals to you then do recruitment. At Spencer Ogden.
