What does your typical day at SO consist of?

I like to be and have always been quite organised. I like to plan everything out and follow a routine as much as I can to make sure that I get everything done.

At the moment, my role is very business development focused. I spend the morning on client calls, introducing myself to new clients. My current focus is to expand the areas we are working within a specific client.

In the afternoon, I usually have meetings with my team. I have one person that I currently manage at the moment, so I go through his day plan with him and talk through what work he has got one. I would then research new areas, and continue my business development.

What is the most rewarding part of the job at SO?

As part of the EMEA Renewables team, I would say the most rewarding part is that I feel like I am doing something good for the world and giving back. I am working with clients on their hiring, finding them the people that are helping us to build a sustainable future!

What are some of the challenges faced during your time at SO?

The recruitment environment is fun but can be challenging at times because it is very loud, noisy and full of very confident people and when I first joined, I was not used to that environment! I found the biggest challenge was working on my personal brand in relation to that, making myself a bit more approachable across the business.

Recruitment is hard, and it has always been an emotional roller-coaster and will continue to be. However, it is important to have a goal. I had something that I wanted to achieve, which kept me motivated throughout the hard times.

Why did you choose recruitment?

The financial rewards! I had some friends that were working in recruitment and was aware of what they were earning. Money has always been a big motivator for me, as I have always wanted to be financially comfortable.

When I first started out I had a goal that I wanted to own my house. Working at Spencer Ogden has allowed me to do that!

What advice do you have for anyone that wants to work in the recruitment industry?

Motivation and drive. Working in the recruitment industry is tough, but being resilient and working towards that goal will push you through the hard times. The good days outweigh the bad!
