Saudi Arabia signed an accord withSouth Korea to cooperate in developing nuclear power.

The agreement was signed in Seoul by Hashim Abdullah Yamani, president of King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy, and Korea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Kim Sung-Hwan, according to a statement received by e-mail today from King Abdullah City.

Saudi Arabia is also in talks with China, Russia, the U.S., Britain and the Czech Republic regarding nuclear cooperation, the statement said. The kingdom signed nuclear agreements earlier this year with France and Argentina, it said.

Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEP), that country’s biggest generator, won a contract in 2009 to build four nuclear plants in the United Arab Emirates that will be ready between 2017 and 2020, making the U.A.E. the first Gulf Arab nation with atomic power.
