Austin Energy activates 30MW solar plant in Texas
Community-owned electric utility Austin Energy has activated a 30MW solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant located within the Village of Webberville in Texas, US.
The utility-scale power project includes more than 127,000 solar PV modules mounted on single-axis trackers.
The solar plant is expected to generate more than 1.4 billion kWh of clean energy over 25 years, enough to power more than 136,000 average US homes.
The facility will also offset more than 1.6 billion pounds of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Austin Energy said that the activation of the solar plant helps bring the utility one step closer to achieving a 35% renewable energy mix by 2020.
