Edison Mission Group has commenced commercial operations on the Pinnacle wind farm at NewPage located on Green Mountain in the US.

The power project consists of 23 wind turbines and has a maximum generating capacity of 55MW.

The electricity generated by the power project is enough to meet the average needs of about 14,000 homes.

The Maryland Department of General Services will purchase two-thirds of the project's output, the University of Maryland system will buy one-third of its output.

The company said the 55MW wind farm is the second project to begin commercial operation under the Generating Clean Horizons program of the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA).

MEA director Malcolm Woolf said investments in clean, renewable energy will help the company in reaching its goal of 20% of renewable energy by 2022.

Through the program, the state and university system of Maryland have committed to buy 78MW of energy produced from two wind farms and one solar installation over 20 years.
