Calpine Corp signs deal with WFEC for power supply

Calpine Corp has signed a contract with Western Farmers Electric Cooperative (WFEC) to supply electric generation capacity and power from Calpine’s 1,134MW Oneta Energy Center (OEC) located in Oklahoma, US.


The terms of the contract have not been disclosed.

Calpine's OEC will supply power starting from 1 June 2014 until 2035.

WFEC initially will purchase 160MW of OEC capacity and that amount will increase in increments up to a maximum of 280MW in 2019-2035.

The OEC is a combined-cycle power plant which generates up to 1,134MW of electricity using natural gas produced in Coweta.

The transaction is subject to conditions precedent, including obtaining required transmission service.

WFEC is a power generation and transmission cooperative based in Oklahoma.

Calpine Corporation owns a fleet of 93 power generation plants representing more than 28,000MW of generation capacity.
