Turkey to inaugurate lignite thermoelectric power plant by 2015
Korea-based SK Group said the $2bn Tufanbeyli thermoelectric power plant project in Turkey is now 10% completed and will be finished in February 2015.
The company has recently entered into a deal with Turkey national electricity production company EUAS for the thermoelectric power plant, considered as the world`s first low-calorie lignite thermal power plant, under construction at the Turkey Tufanbeyli mountainous area by a Korean construction company.
As per the deal, SK E&C will be in charge of all the construction procedures including engineering design, procurement, construction, and test operation.
The Tufanbeyli thermal power plant will use 1,250kcal/kg low-calorie lignite as the main source and is expected to turn the lignite area in the Balkan Peninsular and Eastern Europe into a place where lignite power generation is possible.
