National Rail has announced it will build an overground rail station in east London’s Hackney Wick, a decision that is expected to provide a much-needed boost for the area.

“This will help generate new jobs and economic opportunities as well as provide badly-needed housing,” said Tower Hamlets Mayor, John Biggs. “Investing in Hackney Wick station is part of a commitment to grow the area into a thriving part of east London for people and business.”

The North London Line scheme being undertaken by Network Rail for the London Legacy Development Corporation also plans to have a new north-to-south subway under the railway.
