The government of Indonesia has approved a plan to build the world’s largest tidal power facility.

The $550m project, known as the Palmerah Tidal Bridge, will be built on a floating 800 metre-long bridge and is expected to deliver enough electricity for 100,000 people in the area.

Greenpeace has welcomed the project as alternative energy source to coal.
