Pluspetrol has announced its plans to invest $160 million in a pilot project for the Centenario Centro block in the southwestern province of Neuquen, targeting natural gas in the Vaca Muerta shale play.

As the third-biggest oil producer in Argentina, Pluspetrol hopes to complete the 35-well pilot project by 2020.

According to the provincial government, if Pluspetrol find resources economically viable for production, the company "will consider continuing with the development of the block with an investment of $350 million."
