A group of more than 250 mayors from across the US have unanimously backed a commitment for US cities to run completely on renewable sources by 2035.

The US Conference of Mayors was held in Miami Beach, where leaders from hundreds of cities voted on decisions against Donal Trump’s climate change and immigration policies.

“I think most mayors in America don’t think we have to wait for a president,” said New Orleans mayor and new conference president Mitch Landrieu.

“There’s near unanimity in this conference that climate change is real and that humans contribute to it. There may be a little bit of a disagreement about how actually to deal with it.”
