SO Promoted! Meet Senior Recruiter, Pauline Nadua
Pauline Nadua talks about how she achieved her recent promotion, and offers advice to graduates who are considering a career in recruitment.
What initially attracted you to recruitment and why did you choose to work at SO?Prior to SO, I was working for a similar business that specialized in delivering training services to upstream oil and gas companies. After working in this field for a number of years, I was eager to explore new opportunities. I wanted to continue working in the energy industry, and had heard of Spencer Ogden on multiple occasions and was aware of its strong global presence. The trainee learning and developments programmes that Spencer Ogden offers their entry-level candidates was also attractive, and I liked the look of its award-winning graduate academy.
When did you start working at SO?I started my career at SO over two years ago and was taught all the basics of recruitment during my graduate academy. Initially, I was asked to work on the Oil and Gas contract desk. After six months, I was transferred to our Power division, which is what I continue to specialize in.
How did you achieve your recent promotion to senior recruiter? What is your advice to consultants that are looking to take the next step in their careers?Since working at SO, I have always focused on doing my best month in, month out. Yes, there have been struggles and changes in my market, however, I knew it was important to remain agile and concentrate on delivering solution-driven processes. As a result, I was able to generate great results for my clients and build my portfolio of runners.
There are no secrets to success – it’s about doing your best and staying consistent.
How has your manager helped you achieve this promotion?Contract recruitment is not easy, to say the least, but my manager, Dan Rose, has helped me to succeed in many ways.
Dan is a great role model and is always encouraging me to achieve my best. My confidence has risen thanks to Dan.
What training has Spencer Ogden offered you to support your personal growth to date? Our global L&D function is industry leading and our regional trainers are experts in the field of recruitment. I’ve learnt all the core principles of recruitment from these trainers and they have also offered a hands-on approach with guiding me through many live on-desk scenarios. Our trainers are supportive and always show a keen interest in your on-going development.
Recruitment has its challenges – how do you stay motivated?I don’t like disappointing anyone, including my manager and team. It’s important to stay accountable for your work and always strive to achieve your best.
At SO, you are surrounded by motivated people. It’s these people who keep me going, every day!
What advice would you give a graduate considering a career in recruitment?
Like many jobs, life as a recruiter is challenging and you will encounter several ups and downs along the way, however, it’s crucial to embrace every situation on the job as an opportunity to learn.
