The first reactor at Barakah nuclear power plant is 96 percent complete, according to government officials.

The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) has also publicly announced its plans to issue a license to commence operations at Unit 1 of Barakah Nuclear Power Plant.

Last year, FANR conducted more than 40 inspections related to Barakah. The inspections included verification of the licensee's operator training and certification programme and organisational readiness for Unit 1 operations, cybersecurity, nuclear fuel storage as well as other requirements.

Operated by Nawah Energy Company, the plant is expected to open later this year.
