GE set to build world’s most powerful wind turbine
The new turbine, will have a capacity of 12MW and stand 260 meters tall, the company said. The blades, manufactured by LM Wind Power, will be longer than a soccer field and will produce enough electricity that will provide power for over 16,000 households.
“The renewables industry took more than 20 years to install the first 17 gigawatts of offshore wind,” said Jerome Pecresse, president and chief executive officer of GE Renewable Energy. “Today, the industry forecasts that it will install more than 90 gigawatts over the next 12 years. This is being driven by lower cost of electricity from scale and technology.”
