GE has conducted its first test flight of the world’s largest engine, known as the GE9X. The engine is equipped with 11.2ft diameter front fan, carbon fibre blades, next-generation high-pressure compressor and a new combustor, and delivers over 100,000 pounds of thrust.

This new engine is designed for Boeing’s 777x series and should be certified for flight in 2019.

Commercial service is expected to commence late 2019.
