International digital payments firm, Visa, has announced it will use 100% renewable energy across its operations by 2019.

At present, one-third (35 per cent) of the company’s global electricity comes from renewable sources.

Visa plans to invest in renewable energy, with a particular focus in the US and UK where four facilities are accountable for its total global electricity usage.

“We are proud to play a role in driving the adoption of renewable energy,” said Visa chief executive officer Al Kelly. “For Visa, this announcement is an example of our longstanding commitment to operate as a responsible, ethical and sustainable company, while fostering economic growth.”
