Siemens partners with Northvolt to build battery cell factory

Siemens and Northvolt have announced a partnership to develop high-quality, green lithium-ion batteries at a factory in Europe.
The $11 million project will involve building “the world’s greenest batteries” at Europe’s largest battery factory.
Swedish battery start-up,Northvolt , was founded by two former Tesla executives who recently secured a $68 million loan from InnovFin.
Jan Mrosik, CEO of Siemens Digital Factory Division, commented:“We are happy to supportNorthvolt in building the battery factory of the future. With our Digital Enterprise portfolio, we contribute to a competitive battery cell production in Europe that fully exploits the benefits of software and automation: greater flexibility, efficiency and quality with shorter time to market”
The factory is expected to commence production in 2020 with a projected capacity of 8 GWh per year and will aim for 32 GWh of capacity once the entire factory is completed in 2023.
