My client are a full-service, utility scale, solar and storage developer bringing projects from origination through development. The company has a portfolio of projects in late-stage development totalling 6GW solar and 3GW storage across three key markets of the UK, Australia, and Ireland. As of 2022, they agreed to sell the UK’s largest solar PV transaction to date consisting of a portfolio of 12 projects with a combined capacity of 519MW of projects including 70MW of collocated energy storage capacity to Scottish Power Renewables (UK) Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of global utility Iberdrola Group.
- Establish and lead a team of electrical design engineers to design and deliver efficient connections for the clients portfolio of solar and storage assets.
- Undertake primary and secondary electrical design for 33 kV and 132 kV solar and storage connections across the UK. Engage closely with DNO’s to ensure timely approval of contestable designs in accordance with each DNO’s functional specifications.
- Lead the partial and full NERS accreditation processes to obtain ICP status for electrical design. Lead the establishment and development of the necessary tools and templates required to efficiently undertake ICP designs to a standard acceptable by DNOs.
- Co-ordinate the implementation of a best practice management system for undertaking electrical designs in compliance with the NERS standard. Manage the engagement of specialist consultants to establish the necessary policies and procedures as well as external NERS auditors to achieve and maintain accreditation.
- Apply your electrical engineering knowledge to undertake primary and secondary electrical designs for contestable grid connections for solar and storage using industry standard software programmes (AUTOCAD, CDEGS, PowerFactory, ETAP etc.), automating time consuming processes where possible.
- Provide engineering support to the project development team to ensure efficient and cost-effective grid connection strategies are pursued for solar and storage projects.
- Develop and foster close working relationships with DNO’s to collaborate and negotiate on grid connection options, costs, and timelines and achieve successful outcomes in contestable design review processes.
- Manage a database of grid connection costs for primary, secondary, and auxiliary electrical equipment associated with the connection of solar and storage projects to assist in financial modelling for prospective projects.
- Support the delivery of the project pipeline to energisation by providing electrical engineering guidance throughout the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.

Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesEssential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Develops major Instrumentation and Controls engineering specifications, bid evaluations, and vendor document/drawing reviews for equipment (i.e., Distributed Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), CEMS/NOx Monitoring System, Analyzers, Vibration Monitoring System, Fabric Filter Cleaning Control System, Transmitters, Thermocouples, Control Valves, etc.Prepares and reviews engineering calculations, P&IDs, control system narratives and control system architecture, operator interface layout, instrument connection and installation details, location drawings and technical specificationsGenerates DCS Graphic drawings and control logic diagram using SAMA/ISA format for BMS/CCS controls for Boiler and Burners, AQCS, SCR, WSD, FGD, etc. Develops major electrical engineering specifications, bid evaluations, and vendor drawings reviews for equipment (i.e. Medium & Low Voltage Motors (per NEMA MG1), Power Transformers, Switchgear, Motor Control Centers, UPS and VFD Systems, and Pre?Engineered Power Distribution Centers (PDC), and Equipment Layout. etc.Prepares and reviews engineering calculations, one?line diagrams, schematics, block diagrams, wiring diagrams, load list, hazardous area classification (per NFPA 496 & 497), cable schedules, cable tray routings, lighting layouts, panel schedules, grounding layouts, heat tracing, lightning protection layouts, and other electrical layout drawings and specifications as requiredEnsures that I&C / Electrical design & engineering deliverables are delivered per contract specifications, and within budget and schedule as lead engineer, if assignedReviews I&C / Electrical related documents to mechanical, electrical and process equipment technical specifications and vendor drawings of equipment manufacturers or subcontractor’s and prepares comments and recommendationsCoordinates all I&C / Electrical engineering interfaces with other discipline and client as lead engineer, if assignedPrepares I&C / Electrical engineering work plans/progress report and monitor man?hours as lead engineerEnsures work products meet all applicable local and industry codes, standards and regulatory guides specifically NFPA, NEMA, ASME, ISA, etc.Able to review and understand DCS and PLC configuration drawingsAble to support and execute multiple proposal and contract as project discipline engineer with minimum supervisionPerforms I&C / Electrical related equipment inspection FAT Conducts field survey as deemed required Other Duties & Responsibilities Provide supports in developing I&C / Electrical engineering standards and practicesPossess excellent analytical, decision making, planning and organization skillsMust possess excellent leadership skills with the ability to lead others, provide coaching, development and mentoring of subordinatesAbility to travel both within the USA and to other countries, as deemed necessaryFoster a teamwork environmentCommunicate effectively with all levels of employeesAbility to work independently and with othersContinuously seek ways to improve processes to reduce man?hoursOrganize, maintain and control the status of electrical documents & drawings in PWMaintain the highest degree of honesty and integrity at all times Knowledge, Skills, & EducationTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: Must have a Bachelor's degree (BA) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from a four?year accredited college or university. Candidate shall have a minimum fifteen (15) years’ experience in Instrumentation & Controls / Electrical engineering and design. Post?graduate education is desirable and will be credited as working experience. Excellent understanding and knowledge of industry codes and standards (ANSI/ISA?5.1, NFPA/NEC, IEEE, NEMA) as they relate to the Power Plant. Candidate shall have strong leadership, communication and presentation skills.Language Skills: Candidate must be fluent in English. Strong verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Must be able to interact and communicate well with individuals in all areas of the company.Mathematical Skills: Candidate must possess the necessary mathematical skills required to perform the work and responsibilities described herein.Reasoning Ability: Ability to exercise good judgment and make sound engineering decisions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or schematic form. Computer Skills: Candidate must literate in using common MS Office software including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Access. Knowledge of graphics, technical diagrams, flow charts, etc.
