My client is currently looking for an experienced Power Systems Engineer to join and expand their Grid Team, working alongside the Grid Development Manager. The client is a renewable energy IPP company with fully integrated development capabilities and it's head office in London. The main focus is developing renewable energy power plants across the United Kingdom with the help of their highly experienced management team and partners to allow them to deliver quality, bankable renewable power assets. Their focus is on the development of large-scale solar, wind and hybrid energy storage projects.
Role:
In this role you will be working closely alongside the grid manager, and if required the key management team members and land acquisition team. Supporting the Grid team in identifying and securing grid capacity both on the distribution level and national transmission level from 11kV up to 400kV network for its large-scale solar, wind and BESS projects. You will regularly communicate and liaise with the relevant DNOs and NGESO to gather all necessary intelligence to successfully source and secure grid capacity for prospective projects.
The ideal candidate must have experience in power systems analysis, excellent communication skills and experience of liaising with external stakeholders such as network operators and specialist grid consultants.
Furthermore, you will be actively manging relevant grid aspects of the business, building and maintaining relationships with the DNOs & NG throughout the entire development and construction process. Additionally, you will be supporting the planning team and if necessary, the legal team on any grid connection related matters to ensure that the permits and legal documentation are fully aligned with the grid requirements.
Responsibilities:
• Identify and qualify grid capacity that are suitable for PV, Wind and BESS by undertaking the desktop power system analysis.
• Originate, submit, and managed the process of transmission and distribution connection applications.
• Gathering intelligence and analysing the existing and future electricity network available data bases at transmission and distribution level to provide input into the location and electrical characteristics of new solar/wind developments:
• Engagement with NGESO and DNOs on pre-app meetings and budget offers to glean market-leading intelligence on the availability of connections any upcoming developments (short-, mid-, and long-term)
• Completing the ENA's G99 application form for developments connected to the distribution network.
• Generating SLDs using the Auto Cad and analysing the thirds party technical drawing.
• Reviewing grid connection offers and advise the Management team on summarising costs, scope of work and technical aspects of the offer.
• Undertaking detailed cost analysis of the grid connection costs and implementing strategies to reduce and optimise the costs for connection.
• Manage project pipeline by communicating with DNOs / NGESO/ ICPs as necessary to track progress with development.
• Liaising with developers and TOs/DNOs to understand the status and delivery programs and meet the milestones for grid connections.
• Working with NGESO’s connection portal, completing the application forms including DRC for specific transmission network opportunities.
Special Requirements:
• 3-4 years in a technical role working electricity projects, including submission of grid connection applications at distribution or transmission level.
• Electrical engineering background preferred (you may have a postgraduate degree in a relevant topic) with experience in a technical environment.
• Working knowledge of the Grid Code /ENA G99 is important.
• Experience with DIgSILENT Power Factory.
• Ideally working experience in Solar and wind projects.
• BESS experience is preferred, but not necessarily required.

Some travel required (~15-20%).· Support greenfield development: review transmission system analysis, identify interconnection agencies and procedures, prepare and file interconnection requests including supporting internal and external parties on preparation of technical materials, provide viability feedback to the NY/NE Manager, Interconnection, and other internal stakeholders to support any financial and project approvals needed.· Interconnection study process: support the review and analysis of utility study reports; tracking and reporting results throughout process; support negotiation and execution of interconnection agreements and engineering and procurement agreements· Implementation of portfolio projects: assist internal groups to complete deliverables required by transmission owners to construct interconnection facilities including integrating schedules of Transmission Owner into project construction schedule.· Support project due diligence efforts, identify existing and potential red flags for project acquisitions and existing pipeline projects.Desired Skills and Expertise:· Familiarity with reviewing interconnection studies and power flow models. Experience running study models a plus.· Ability to analyze power flow and system impact studies for interconnection of utility scale solar, wind, and storage generating facilities.· Knowledge of System Impact Studies (SIS) and other interconnection studies and procedures for interconnection renewable energy generating facilities >10 MWac.· Understanding of electrical diagrams, preliminary site plans, and preparation of interconnection request packages for submittal.· Awareness of transmission systems and transmission expansion plans in US.· Knowledge of Open Access Transmission Tariffs and Generator Interconnection Procedures.Minimum Qualifications:· BS in Electrical Engineering or related field.3+ years work history in renewable or traditional energy development, utility generation development, or transmission planning. Previous employment or experience working at an Electric Utility, or consultants providing services within those footprints is strongly preferred.
