Job Title - Project Engineer - Flexible Technology

Location - Dublin, flexible working structure.

Salary - Market leading, with wider benefits package.

Reporting To - Manager Flexible Technologies, Asset Development.

Job Overview:

Asset Development is tasked with identifying, developing and constructing new investment opportunities on behalf of the company. Asset Development activities comprise identifying and developing generation and system service opportunities to enhance our portfolio and to realise our net zero 2040 strategy. The Flexible Technology Development unit within Asset Development is currently developing a number of projects in Ireland and the UK, across various different flexible generation technologies and system support technologies (e.g. synchronous compensation and long-term storage).

The successful candidate will be responsible to a technology area manager and take on leading project development activities including establishing techno-commercial feasibility of projects and investigating technology areas. The role will involve working closely with team members across the company's various business units. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, innovative, commercially driven and have a track record of successfully delivering projects and initiatives within the business.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assessment and development of new business opportunities such as greenfield sites, application of new technologies on existing sites and acquisitions.
  • Research potential technology areas for commercial opportunities.
  • Development and preparation of assigned projects for market competitions e.g. capacity auctions and system service competitions;
  • Where required, provide leadership and direction in the delivery of flexible technology projects or aspects from concept phase through to investment approval.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the procurement and contract strategy for each of the projects and co-ordinate the various contracts required for each Project.
  • Ensure effective delivery of projects in line with the company's internal rigorous project management methodologies, achieving a consistent high standard of output from the project team which meets all technical, commercial, legal procurement and programme requirements.
  • Ensuring that all project risks are continually assessed, reported and managed in line with the company's governance systems.
  • Champion Safety by supporting the implementation of Safe and Sound, the project safety management strategy and ensuring implementation of this strategy across all projects.
  • Promote and foster a strong team culture and open and transparent communication within the project team and throughout the AD business unit.
  • Development, management and responsibility of the business case for assigned projects.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships, both internally and externally supporting the acquisition of necessary permits, authorisations, planning and connection agreements for projects.
  • Be fully informed of industry issues which may impact on the choice of plant and ensure that this information feeds into the decision-making process.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Ability to critically assess opportunities with inputs from highly diverse experts such as technical, environmental, regulation, market analysis and financial.
  • Experience of working from own initiative, taking ownership of work / projects and motivating team members to deliver team objectives or projects.
  • Ability to clearly plan and communicate the requirements to progress specific projects or new initiatives in the Flexible Technology Development area.
  • 3rd level qualification in engineering, commercial, planning or equivalent.
  • 5+ years industry experience.
  • A track record of project experience.
  • Experience of negotiations and commercial ability.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of various energy generation technologies and experience of assessing these technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience of planning permission and other permitting processes
  • Knowledge of the energy market and regulatory supports in Ireland and UK
  • Knowledge of procurement procedures.
  • Financial skill to appraise project returns and profitability.
  • Understanding of power generation business.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • 3rd level primary degree in engineering, commercial, planning or equivalent.

Desirable:

  • Project management qualification and/or other business management qualifications that may compliment the essential/desirable knowledge, skills and experience listed above.
