Solar Development Associate 

The Solar Development Associate - Midwest will support the expansion of a renewable energy company's portfolio of utility-scale solar energy development assets in the Midwest. The successful candidate will possess a combination of real estate expertise, written and verbal communication skills, business development acumen, and negotiation skills.

This role is open to candidates in St. Louis (preferred) or remote in Iowa, Indiana, Arkansas, Illinois, or Missouri. The position requires approximately 30% travel.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Successfully siting and permitting facilities on agricultural land.
  • Negotiating lease agreements and purchase option agreements with rural landowners.
  • Managing ongoing relationships with landowners through design and financing to secure additional support as needed for easements, zoning support, and title cure.
  • Managing internal and external resources (engineering, finance, legal, environmental, etc.) to successfully develop candidate projects.
  • Structuring overall projects and managing development through financial close/start of construction.
  • Maintaining an overview of the relevant business and competitive environment, including regulatory and environmental legislation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in engineering, economics, business, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in infrastructure project development, solar or wind preferred.
  • Relevant experience in successfully permitting facilities on agricultural property including cell phone towers, power generation facilities, or other commercial/industrial operations.
  • Strong public speaking skills - comfortable representing projects at community meetings and zoning hearings.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and commercial savvy.
  • Independent work ethic/self-motivation and demonstrated leadership ability ideally in a development role overseeing multiple project/transactions simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Ability to build relationships with internal and external customers including senior leadership.
  • Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, Google Earth, Adobe, etc.).
  • Ability to work in an entrepreneurial organization.
  • Knowledge of the electric utility industry in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and Missouri.
