France has awarded Alstom, the French engineering group, a contract to supply equipment for the French Government’s “Programme des Investissements d’Avenir”, a tidal energy pilot farm at Raz Blanchard, west of Contentin peninsula, offshore France.
The project will involve the installation of four Oceade™ 18 - 1.4MW tidal turbines, as well as an Alstom electrical subsea hub. Alstom will test the Oceade™ 18 - 1.4MW tidal turbines while it is under installation and in operational conditions similar to those in commercial facilities.
Once completed, the tidal turbines will have the total capacity of 5.6MW, supplying power to 15,000 people. The project is set to begin in 2017 and is expected to operate for 20 years.
