Anglesey nuclear power station sees boost from Scottish Power

06 Mar 2015

Scottish Power is investing £22 million to divert power circuits to make way for the development of a new nuclear power station in Anglesey.

The investment will install 6km of 132,000 volt underground cable to divert the existing circuits and make way for the nuclear power station.

The project, which is being undertaken by SP Energy Networks and Horizon Nuclear Power, is expected to be completed by late 2016, and initial work has already started.

The Wylfa Newydd nuclear project is expected to receive a development consent application in 2017, followed by construction in 2019. During the construction phases, the project could employ up to 5000 workers, with 1000 set to work permanently once the plant is operational.
