AngloGold uses new technology to mine gold

20 May 2014
AngloGold, South Africa’s largest gold miner, has now utilised its new technology to extract gold, producing 1 600oz of the precious metal.

AngloGold’s Tau Tona gold mine, near Carletonville, has become the first site that has used the technology in gold production and is already into its 25th drill hole. The new technology has enabled drilling in even the narrowest of reefs in local ore bodies.

The game changing technology eliminates blast and ultimately makes for a safer working environment and has the potential to improve the productivity levels in South Africa.

Once the technology is developed to scale, it will be able to be used at depths of over 5km.
