Australia could save $150bn with Nuclear Power

24 Jul 2013
Australia’s power prices could be reduced by 20% and save approximately $150 billion from now until 2050 with the inclusion of nuclear power in its electricity generation mix.

The analysis of future energy options has found that greenhouse gas abatement costs and the health costs of burning fossil fuels could be hugely reduced. If 25 GW of nuclear power was included in the electricity generation mix, electricity costs could be 20% lower than in the government’s existing energy plan and 29,000 nuclear jobs could be created.

These findings will be presented to an Australian Technology Sciences and Engineering conference in Sydney, and will feature industry experts discussing the financial, social and economic issues surrounding nuclear energy.
