Australia has announced the construction of 12 new solar power plants which will triple the country’s large-scale solar power production, according to Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).
The project which is federally funded will receive a total investment of $92 million for six plants in Queensland, five in New South Wales and one in Western Australia.
Officials say the projects are expected to generate close to $1 billion of commercial investment and provide an additional boost to regional Australian economies.
“My Government promised to establish a large-scale renewable energy, to act on climate change while creating new jobs and diversifying our economy,” said Queensland Energy Minister Mark Bailey
