Bangladesh begins work on first nuclear power plant
02 Oct 2013
Bangladesh began the opening phase of work for the country’s first ever nuclear power plant using Russian technology.
The deal for the plant was signed in November 2011 with the Russian state-owned nuclear giant Rosatom to build the power station and the country has secured soft loans from Moscow to finance 90% of the project.
The nuclear power plant will have two 1,000 MW reactors costing up to $4 billion and is expected to generate power by 2018.
