Bombardier Transportation and Hitachi Rail Europe have partnered in a bid to supply rolling stock for London’s Underground New Tube programme.
Many companies are currently bidding for the contract, such as Alstom, CAF and Siemens.
The basic requirement for the project includes 1,700 cars, with potential for up to 3,000 cars with provision for growth. The assembly work is expected to be shared between the companies’ plants at Derby and Newton Aycliffe, according to Hitachi.
