The UK Government has approved to publicly fund the £396 million restoration of Buckingham Palace.
According to the Treasury, the refurbishment will take place over a 10 year period and will see all ageing cables, lead pipes, wiring and boilers replaced.
The work is expected to begin in April and the Queen will remain in residence during the restoration process.
Tony Johnstone-Burt, Master of the Queen's Household, has explained the phased works offered is the "best value for money" while keeping the palace running.
