China plans to increase uranium reserve

11 Mar 2016

China has planned to expand its strategic uranium reserve as part of its five-year plan for 2016-2020. The country aims to have enough fuel to supply a new program of nuclear reactors.

Since 2007, Beijing has been stockpiling uranium and currently has 74,000 tons of inventory.

According to Shanghai Nuclear Power Office, China’s natural uranium demand is likely to reach 11,000 tons by 2020, and rise to 24,000 tons in 2030.
