China set to invest $500m in Pakistan Renewable sector

24 Feb 2016

Pakistan is expecting $1 billion investment in its renewable energy sector this year, with 50% of the investment likely to come from China.

China will invest around $500 million to develop renewable projects within the region and will make the investments through the China Pakistan Economic Corridor. Pakistan has set a target of increasing its capacity of renewable energy by an additional 800MW – double the capacity currently operational in Pakistan.

This year, the Alternate Energy Development Board (AEBD) announced that over 40 wind projects are currently in various stages of development. The amount of jobs available in Pakistan’s renewable sector has dramatically increased as foreign investors poured over $3 billion into the sector last year.
