China has unveiled its plans to build a global power grid worth over $50 trillion by 2050.
The global power grid will be known as the Global Energy Interconnection (GEI), according to the Chairman of the State Grid Corporation of China.
Constructed using an high voltage (UHV), the grid will connect proposed wind farms in the North Pole and solar farms built at the equator.
“It’s exactly what’s needed if such renewable energy sources as wind and energy, which could potentially shoulder the vast majority of the world’s energy generation, will ever become a viable alternative,” said a representative from the World Economic Forum.
