Chinese Nuclear firms target Essex site for new power plant

29 Aug 2014
Chinese nuclear power corporations are said to have chosen the Dengie peninsula in Bradwell, Essex as the location for their next nuclear plant.

The 3000 megawatt power plant will sit beside the partly decommissioned Magnox plant, with plans and designs reportedly ready to submit to the Office for Nuclear Regulation.

The companies behind the plant – China General Nuclear Power Corporation and China National Nuclear Corporation – have already signed contracts to finance the Hinkley Point project in Somerset, Britain’s first new nuclear plant for nearly 20 years.

The county was originally selected as a potential site due to its infrastructure, existing power station and skilled local workforce.
