Nuclear company NuGen will start offshore drilling in preparation for the construction of a nuclear power plant located in Moorside, U.K.
NuGen plans to build three Westinghouse AP1000 reactors in 2018 with drilling at Moorside expected to begin the next few days.
“The onshore element of the work is progressing extremely well, with over a third of the boreholes complete. Commencing the off-shore drilling is an important milestone,” says project manager, Matt Waddicor.
Once fully operational, the reactors will have a combined capacity of 3.8GW, enough to power up to 6 million homes.
