The new Crossrail trains project that will service London and the South East, has hit a significant milestone with the completion of a test carriage at Bombardier’s train manufacturing plant in Derby.
This test carriage will act as a blueprint for the remaining fleet, as well as being used to refine the design and the manufacturing techniques for the 594 carriages required for the 66 Crossrail trains.
The trains will provide space for up to 1,500 passengers, relieving congestion and over-crowding across London’s rail network.
The building and manufacturing process that the trains go through provides 760 UK manufacturing jobs and 80 apprenticeships. The whole Crossrail project and its supply chain is set to support 55,000 full time jobs across the country.
