Cuadrilla proposes 2 new locations for exploration sites in UK

07 Feb 2014
Cuadrilla’s plans to carry out appraisal drilling to assess shale gas resources in the Bowland Basin has been announced, along with the proposed locations for the two new exploration sites in the Fylde in the north west of England.

Following this, Cuadrilla will apply for planning permission to drill, hydraulically fracture and test the flow of gas from up to four exploration wells on each of the sites, Roseacre Wood and Preston New Road.

Separate applications will also be made to install two seismic arrays that will monitor the hydraulic fracturing process.

A study carried out in July 2013 by the British Geological Society has estimated the potential resource of gas-in-place at 1300 tcf across 11 counties in the North and centre of England. This is much larger than previously thought and includes the prolific Bowland Basin.
