Dangote Group invests $250m in Nigerian power plant

15 Aug 2014
Dangote Group has invested $250m in a coal-based power plant in Nigeria.

The plant comes as part of an attempt to provide an alternative source of power, to ultimately reduce costs and the difficulty in accessing reliable electricity in the country.

The shortage of gas in Nigeria means that the power supply is unpredictable, directly affecting production capacity.

Dangote Group have installed the 54 megawatts coal-based power in Gboko, and are working towards installations at Ibeshe and Obajana for business operations.

The group has also reportedly begun searching for coal opportunities in Nigeria, as it is currently importing coal from South Africa.
