DOE to invest $18m in solar energy storage

05 Feb 2016

The U.S Department of Energy has announced that it will inject $18 million into six new projects which will aim to provide better solar power energy storage solutions and advanced grid technologies.

These two focus areas are part of the DOE’s Grid Modernization Initiative and the Sunshot Initiative.

“Energy storage, solar PV, and smart grid technologies experienced incredible growth in 2015 and we expect they will play an increasingly important role in reaching the nation’s climate and clean energy goals in the years ahead,” said Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy David Danielson.

These projects are a part of a much larger goal of national grid development, as a total of $220 million in research and funding is being provided to solar energy sector.
