Dong Energy’s new offshore wind project given go ahead

04 Feb 2016

Dong Energy’s multi-million pound Hornsea Project One has been confirmed, having received its final investment.

The Hornsea project will become the world’s biggest offshore windfarm and will be located 120km off the Yorkshire coast and span across more than 400km square.

“Hornsea Project One will support the supply chain and help create local jobs,” said Dong Energy’s country chairman, Brent Cheshire. “To have the world's biggest ever offshore wind farm located off the Yorkshire coast is hugely significant, and highlights the vital role offshore wind will play in the UK's need for new low-carbon energy."

The 174 turbines are expected to provide power to 1m homes within the UK and create 2,000 jobs during construction.
