You need a company that prioritises the safety of its employees. A company that is committed to safety and safe management processes will have good safety records. Make sure you ask if there have been any recent improvements to the company’s management systems, safety, and automated equipment.
Day rate / salary
The drilling industry is known for its highly lucrative salaries. Whilst seemingly obvious, it’s always best to research current market rates. The industry is no longer in a downtown and it’s safe to say that you’re now in a good position to negotiate a competitive rate. But remain realistic.
As you may know, working long shifts on a rig is physically and mentally challenging, which is why you need an environment that will support your health and wellbeing. While most rigs will have comfortable living quarters that are often comparable to hotels, it is essential that you ask about the standard of on-site accommodation and onboard facilities.
Many companies offer competitive benefits, however, it’s always good to know whether your new employer covers tax and travel costs. Additionally, insurance coverage varies from company to company so it’s essential to know what you are entitled to.
