Dubai's Solar Park moves into first phase

23 Oct 2013
Dubai’s largest operating solar photovoltaic plant has gone live, it was announced on Tuesday.

The 13 megawatt photovoltaic power plant marks the first phase of Dubai’s Dhs12 billion Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, developed by First Solar.

The plant is predicted to generate 24 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year, as well as being expected to displace approximately 15,000 metric tonnes of CO2 annually, which can be calculated as the equivalent to removing 2,000 cars from the road every year.
The Solar Park itself is expected to eventually cover 40 square kilometers and produce 1,000MW of clean energy for the national grid using both PV and solar thermal technology.
