EDF Energy awards Thales 10 year nuclear contract

14 Aug 2014
EDF Energy has awarded French electrical systems company, Thales, a 10 year contract at several of the UK’s nuclear power stations.

The long-term contract covers Thales’ support of computerised control systems at all but two of EDF’s plants.

The main aim of the project is to extend the safe operation of these plants where it is economically viable to do so, forming the basis of EDF Energy’s key strategy for nuclear power across the UK.

The existing nuclear power plants already supply 9GW of safe and reliable energy to the national grid and so extending their life will be an advantage to the UK’s power supply, as demand for reliable and low carbon electricity continues to increase.
