Emerson to automate two 1,000MW units at Chinese power plant

11 Oct 2011

Emerson Process Management has secured a contract from China Resources Power Holdings to install its Ovation expert control system at two new 1,000MW, ultra-supercritical power generating units under construction at the Puqi power plant located in China's Hubei province.

The power plant currently includes two 600MW coal-fired units which have utilized the Ovation technology since they began operations in 2004.

The new ultra-supercritical units are expected to commence commercial operation in the second half of 2012.

Under the contract, Emerson will supply a total of 64 redundant Ovation controllers and 23 workstations.

An Ovation system at each unit will perform data acquisition as well as monitor and control the boiler and turbine supplied by Shanghai Electric Group.

The Ovation technology will also manage each unit's modulating control system, sequence control system, electrical control system, furnace safety supervisory system, feedwater turbine control system and balance-of-plant processes.

Emerson said its Ovation technology will monitor and control systems common to both units using multi-networking technology.
