Global provider of comprehensive photovoltaic solar systems First Solar has secured a contract from the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) to construct a 13MW project in Seih Al Dahal.
The scope of the contract includes engineering, procurement and construction services alongside the supply of advanced thin-film PV modules.
The project is part of the proposed Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, spread over 48-sq.km. and aimed at producing1000MW clean energy entailing an investment of AED12bn ($3.27bn).
Commenting on the project DEWA managing director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer remarked that the installation of the plant is an important step towards making solar energy a vital part of the Emirates energy portfolio.
"The strategy is based on Dubai's growing energy requirements and aims to maintain security of supply in the Emirate of Dubai," said Tayer.
DEWA will operate the solar plant which expected to annually generate 22 million units of energy besides reducing carbon emissions by 14,000mt.
