Ford to launch autonomous vehicles by 2021

22 Aug 2016
Ford has announced its plans to become a leader in autonomous vehicles and has pledged to introduce autonomous vehicles by 2021.

As part of Ford’s ‘smart mobility’ plan, the cars will have no driver input and the vehicle will drive without a steering wheel and pedals.

“The next decade will be defined by automation of the automobile, and we see autonomous vehicles as having as significant impact on society as Ford’s moving assembly line did 100 years ago,” said Mark Fields, Ford president and CEO.

It is expected by the end of the year, Ford will have tripled the number of vehicles in its autonomous test fleet.

“Our presence in Silicon Valley has been integral to accelerating our learning and deliverables driving Ford Smart Mobility,” commented Ford’s vice president of research, Ken Washington.
