GDF Suez will bid in a French government tender for the offshore installation of wind turbines with a total generating capacity of 3,000MW by 2015.
The company has recently entered a partnership with French concessions and construction company Vinci and nuclear technology group Areva to bid in this tender.
The exclusive partnership will bid for three of the five suitable areas identified by the French government, which could represent as much as 1,750MW of offshore wind power capacity.
The three wind projects are Dieppe-Le Treport (Seine-Maritime and Somme), Courseulles-sur-Mer (Calvados) and Fecamp (Seine-Maritime) in northern France.
GDF Suez said the electricity generated by these wind farms will be supplied to several million inhabitants for nearly 30 years.
