GE and ComEd sign $200m smart meter deal to modernise Chicago’s grid

10 Jul 2013

GE and ComEd sign $200m smart meter deal to modernise Chicago’s grid. GE is helping ComEd to create an integrated, end-to-end Smart Grid, and aim to deploy approximately 4 million start meters by 2021 in the Chicago area, and bringing GE jobs to the City of Chicago.

The smart meters will allow ComEd’s customers to better manage their energy usage and help ComEd to more quickly detect and restore power outages.

Under Illinois 2011 Smart Grid Law, ComEd committed to invest more than $2.6billion over 10 years to modernise its electric grid. More than $1.3billion of this money is focused on building a grid network and installing smart meters in 4million homes and businesses.
