Germany has beaten the UK in the rate at which the country is installing offshore wind turbines.
Last year, approximately 3,000 MW of offshore wind power was connected to the European grid. The UK was able to generate 556 MW of offshore energy whilst Germany connected an impressive 2,282 MW.
“Germany was the engine behind the record year in 2015 and we would expect it to continue its lead,” said a spokesman for the European Wind Energy Association (EWAE). “Germany will be a big offshore story towards 2020 certainly.”
In Europe alone, investment in the offshore wind sector doubled to €13.3bn last year with the green tech sector achieving a record year.
