The IKEA Group has purchased a 165 MW wind farm in Cameron County, Texas, the biggest renewable energy investment made by the group to date.
The purchase follows IKEA’s investment made earlier this year for a 98 MW wind farm in Hoopeston, Illinois. Together, the two projects will generate approximately 1,000 GW-hours of electricity per year – equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of about 90,000 American households.
The investments represents the group’s commitment of becoming a more sustainable business and hopes to produce at least as much energy via renewable energy as the company uses each year, globally.
The new Cameron County wind farm is expected to be operational by the end of 2015.
