17 Nov 2015

After further delay and prevarication, the Government has finally decided to proceed with the contract, despite the doubts expressed by industry analysts about the high cost of operation.

The first order, covering trains for the Great Western Line, is for 21 nine car electric and 36 five car bi-mode trains, which are due to start being put into service in late 2017, and should all be available by the end of 2018.

The second order, for the East Coast Main Line, will consist of 12 electric five car trains, 30 nine car electric, 13 nine car bi-mode and 10 five car bi-mode. The first trains will go into passenger service in 2018 and the order will be completed by 2020.
